Below are some questions we submitted
to the band during their last UK tour, which Michael Tighe
very kindly took time out to answer:
How
does it feel to finally be fronting a band??
MICHAEL
TIGHE: It feels like destiny.
Has
the music evolved much, since you have taken it on the road??
MICHAEL
TIGHE: Yes. It evolves every night. Except for one night in Albany.
I'm not sure if it evolved that night. We've played about 15 shows
now and already I think it sounds better than the record.
What
has the reception been like from the audiences you have played too
so far on the tour?
MICHAEL
TIGHE: Sometimes confused. Sometimes warm. Sometimes sexual. Sometimes
repelled. Sometimes ecstatic! In general - very good.
Who
are your main influences?
MICHAEL TIGHE: Bowie, Mingus,
T.Rex, Bjork and Prince.
Where
do you think the A.M fit into the current music scene?
MICHAEL
TIGHE: Into the space where there used to be a vacccum before
The A.M. was born.
Where
do you see THE A.M. in five or ten years?
MICHAEL
TIGHE: Hopefully, at the peak of our musical expression as a
band.
THE
A.M. will always be compared to your work with Jeff, how do you
feel about that?
MICHAEL
TIGHE: It's to be expected and as long as the process of "comparing"
doesn't block the listener from hearing what is actually going on
in The A.M. then I'm fine with comparisons with Jeff or anyone else
for that matter.
Do
you think Jeffs music would have taken a similar route as
THE A.M.s. I think you can hear a definite similarity in
I woke up in a strange place and Back in NYC.
MICHAEL
TIGHE: I'm happy that you recognize that link because the spirit
of "I woke Up In A Strange Place" is one of the main ingredients
of The A.M. Yes I believe some of Jeff's music was on this route.
